CUB SCOUT PACK 679

                                          CIRCLE TEN COUNCIL

WESTERN STAR DISTRICT

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA

Statement of Purpose

The Mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.  Cub Scouting is a year-round family-oriented part of the BSA program designed for boys who are in first through fifth grades (or are 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age).

Pack 679 Supports all our Scouts to Learn and Follow the Outdoor Code

Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the 10 purposes of Cub Scouting:

    •  Character Development
    •  Respectful Relationships
    •  Spiritual Growth
    •  Personal Achievement
    •  Good Citizenship
    • Friendly Service
    •  Sportsmanship and Fitness
    • Fun and Adventure
    •  Family Understanding
    • * Preparation for Boy Scouts

All the activities leaders plan, and boys enjoy, should relate to one or more of these purposes. These purposes help us achieve the overall aims of the BSA of character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness.  The purpose of Cub Scout Pack 679 is to provide an opportunity for boys in grades 1 through 5 to experience the Cub Scout program as administered by the Pack.

Cub Scout Promise

I (name) promise to do my best,

To do my duty to God and my country,

To help other people, and

To obey the Law of the Pack

The Cub Scout program presented shall be provided in accordance with and by adherence to the guidelines provided by the Boy Scouts of America and the Circle Ten Council . All program materials, activities, advancement requirements, award presentations will be in strict accordance with the requirements as established by the Boy Scouts of America.  No deviation from the program in any matter will be allowed without the combined approval of the Pack committee, the Charter Organization and the local Council.  Cub Scouts should advance in rank each year. Parents are advised that it is their responsibility to work with sons to attain rank. The boys cannot do it without their parent’s support and help.

In order to be eligible to receive an award, the Scout must be current on all dues (and fundraiser monies etc.). All rank, religious and other special awards will usually be presented at Pack Meetings. One (1) Parent, at a minimum, must be present for the presentation of a rank advancement. Scouts are expected to wear uniforms for award presentations.  Belt loops and other minor awards may be presented at Den Meetings.

All advancements completed at District and/or Council events, including Summer Day Camp and Resident Summer Camps will be accepted by the Scout’s Den Leader. If the Den leader was not present, then the Scout must provide written proof from the event that the advancement requirements were met.  However, Den Leaders may repeat an advancement requirement with his or her Den at their discretion.

Cub Scout awards are to be awarded for participation in Cub Scout events, not for other extra curricular activities that a child may be enrolled in outside of Scouting. ( excluding Sports ) .  In this fashion the awards serve as an incentive to attend events or participate in activities with the Den or Pack. Den Leaders may, but are not required to choose to assign alternate or homework assignments to make up for missed activities at their discretion.

       Pack Meetings

Pack meetings will he held on the Third Monday of each month in the L C  Elementary School Cafeteria , 7:00 - 8:30  unless otherwise noted on the Pack calendar.  Regular pack meetings are held from September through May. Pack 679 participates in promoting the Summertime Activity award for all Scouts to earn .

Summertime pack activities are held at the times set forth by the pack calendar for June, July and August. At least three pack activities will be held during the summer to qualify the pack as a Quality Unit.  Dens may, and are encouraged to, continue holding den meetings throughout the summer. Should dens choose to suspend den meetings for the summer months, they are still expected to attend pack meetings to maintain a year-round program.

No Scout can leave a Pack or Den meeting early without a parent notifying an adult leader and personally arranging for pick-up by an authorized adult.

The joint attendance of both the Cub Scout and at least one (1) partner (adult family member or representative 18 years of age or over) is required at a Pack meeting. Awards shall be presented at the monthly Pack meeting to the Cub Scout accompanied by his partner.

Uniforming is one of the methods of Scouting used to establish a group identity and recognize the Scout's achievements.  Our uniform is very distinctive and tradition and our Scouts take a lot of pride in it.  We look like Scouts, not a soccer team or just another youth group.  The Pack will follow the uniforming guidelines as established by the Boy Scouts of America and establish a Class A (or full) Uniform and a Class B (or activity) Uniform.  The Class A uniform of the Pack shall be as follows:

     ●  Official Cub Scout Blue or Webelos Tan shirt ( Class B Pack T’s to be created )

     ●  Rank appropriate neckerchief and slide or handmade slide

     ●  Cub Scout Blue or Webelos Green belt with buckle

     ●  The rank appropriate Cub Scout Handbook (Tiger, Wolf, Bear or Webelos)

     ●  The Class A uniform will be worn to den meetings pack meetings, ceremonies and outings

The following items are encouraged but not required.

     ●  Rank appropriate Cub Scout Cap

     ●  Dark Blue pants or shorts

     ●  Shoes and socks

     ●  The current Cub Scout Handbook (Tiger, Wolf, Bear or Webelos) is part of the Class A uniform
